About Word Up Kidz Club
Word up was started in Southern Pines,NC by Pastor Steve & Margie Coleman.
My wife and I moved to Moore County from the Compton/Lynwood area of Los
Angeles,Ca with a vision of continuing in Sidewalk Sunday School and
Children's Ministry as we had done at our church in Los Angeles. I was a
Children's Pastor for a number of years at the Lynwood Worship Center in the
inner city of L A. I was trained by Metro Ministries at the Dream Center in Los
Angeles and I am also a graduate of the Teen Challenge program in 1995 and
the TCMI Bible Institute in 1997.
Word Up was birthed in October of 2004 with the help of a supportive church
and a few faithful workers with a vision to see kids get saved. Armed with a
Poster Story,a sound system,candy,games and the Gospel. We proceeded to
the Holiday Towne Housing section of our city. 35 kids attended that first day
and 9 gave their life to Christ!! Soon after, we were picking up kids for church
on a weekly basis. Word Up meets on the 1st and 3rd Saturday April - Dec.
In March of 2006, Pastor Steve became part of a church planting in
Aberdeen,NC as the Associate-Pastor of Mosaic Ministries. We have since
moved Word Up Kidz Club into the Woodgreen and Jackson-Hamlet section of
Moore County and things are going just as well. Our motto at Word Up is
"Taking Jesus To Da Streets" and that is what we do.
